RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES

KEEPING FAMILIES CLOSE

Alpha Delta Pi's national philanthropy is Ronald McDonald House Charities, known within the sorority as RMH. The Ronald McDonald House serves as a "home away from home" for the families of sick and hospitalized children. Kappa Chapter specifically serves the Birmingham, Alabama Ronald McDonald House. The families staying at the house are able to live close to their hospitalized children. The Ronald McDonald House truly encompasses the statement "families are stronger when they are together, and their presence helps a sick child heal faster and cope better." The family can come back to the house after a stressful day and have a support system of families dealing with the same hardships. It is a place where families can feel at home, cook their meals, watch TV, read, do their laundry, and enjoy the comfort of a warm and friendly environment.

“We believe that when you change a child’s life, you change a family’s, which can change a community, and ultimately the world.”

Kappa Chapter is very fortunate to have a Ronald McDonald House close to campus in the Birmingham area because it allows us to serve this organization and these families firsthand. We participate in various activities at the House such as hosting Bingo Night with the families, bracelet making, Hallapalooza, Thanksgiving crafts, helping them organize the house paint pumpkins.

During the semester, our Director of Philanthropy and Philanthropy Specialist plan and execute fundraising events on Samford’s campus. This past spring, we had a Powder Puff Football tournament. In the fall, we can bring together both the Samford and Birmingham community to support RMHC through our Annual Chili Cook-Off.

This past academic year, we have raised over $24,000 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama.

What RMHCA Means to Us

“RMHCA changes the lives of families across the nation, and I am honored to be a small part in their mission. Volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House has quickly become one of my favorite parts of college. Getting to first hand witness the impact ADPi gets to have on families in need in partnership with RMHCA is such a special opportunity, and I encourage everyone to try to be a part. Interacting with the families at the house not only allows me to be a light and give back to those in their time of need, but every single time I go I leave with my own cup fulfilled as well. There is truly no words to describe its impact. I am forever grateful for ADPi and the blessings it has given me, and one of those being the connections I have gotten to build with RMHCA.”
